The Research Grants Management Information System (RGMIS) was launched today, 24th February 2015 at CCU by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mbithi
Most of the researches in the University of Nairobi are managed using the manual system which has challenges particularly in terms of coordination and streamlining of the grant management processes and inability to effectively track research activities, information and outputs.
Speaking at the launch, ICTC Director noted that ‘ the system will help in tracking the progress of grants, streamline research process and also help the university increase the number of successful proposals. He confirmed that the training of staff and will start in March.
The VC noted that the system will make things faster, more efficient more accountable and online reporting. The VC also urged everyone to be disciplined as 'we celebrate this important landmark'.
RGMIS has undergone numerous reviews by researchers, management and other stakeholders. The system will enhance efficiency and effectiveness of grant management processes, ease generation of research and grant related report, ease decision making process by capturing and updating of research information and reduce inconsistencies brought about by manual processes. The system will also enhance storage of research data and report tracking of research output.
In future the system will be up scaled to streamline procurement processes.
