UON CELEBRATES 2nd INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

The 2nd International day of Yoga was held at the University of Nairobi grounds on June 19th 2016. The Event was graced by top dignitaries including sports cabinet secretary Dr.Hassan Wario who represented the Deputy President Willian Ruto.

Dr. Hassan Wario said that Yoga is a wholistic approach to the total wellbeing of a person. It is also a way of living healthy

The Vice Chancellor noted that practicing yoga daily has many health benefits including relaxation of mind and body, healing some diseases and helps improve interaction between people. He urged the youth to adopt Yoga as a form of exercise.

The over 6000 participants started with warm-up exercises, stretching, sun salutation meditation among others.

Yoga is a spiritual, mental and physical exercise that has its origins from India that dates back in ages. Some of the benefits of yoga include; Increased flexibility, Increased muscle strength and tone, Improved respiration, energy and vitality, Maintaining a balanced metabolism, Weight reduction, Cardio and circulatory health, Improved athletic performance, Protection from injury among others.

Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were; Indian High Commission  H.E. Ms. Suchitra Durai,  Chaiman of Chandaria Group of Companies,  Dr. Manu Chandaria, Vimal Shah, Chief Executive Officer Bidco Company, Inspector General of Police,   Joseph Boinnet among others.
