A panelist at the 2017 Triple Helix Summit, Mr. Benson Kimani discussed in detail on the roadmap and domestication of SDG’s and what Kenya needs to achieve these goals in order to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change by 2030.

The strategic areas of focus on the roadmap include:

Comprehensive mapping of stakeholders in order to define relevant actors involved with the SDGs and the role each can play in the implementation process. This will help to provide the basis for forging strategic partnerships on the SDGs. Involving the stakeholders is necessitated by the reason that the government alone cannot provide all the solutions.

Sensitization of SDG’s. There need to be to sensitization and awareness raising all on what SDG’s are and the benefits to be reaped out of the realization of these goals.

Domestication and localization of SDG’s at all levels. The resources that we have are not enough to achieve these goals. There’s need to mobilize resources internally and externally. There also need to have a needs assessments and costing of the SDGs within the national and sub-national contexts

Tracking and reporting. Periodically report on the progress of SDG’s with focus on key results achieved at the national and county levels as well as defining solutions to off-track goals through SDGs Acceleration Framework

Mr. Benson also discussed on the role ICT plays in the realization of SDG’s

  • ICT is the key enabler in development to attainment of SDG’s
  • It provides us with tools and a platform to evaluate and monitor progress on SDG’s targets
  • It enhances capacity building, inform and collets view within the digital media
  • It provides with indicators on the progress through data

The triple helix summit took place from 4th-6th April 2017 at the University of Nairobi Towers
