Dr. Vijoo  Rattansi,  University of Nairobi (UoN) Chancellor, visited the College of Biological and  Physical Sciences (CBPS) to get  acquainted with the  operations of   the  college  and  meet both academic and non-academic staff, as well as students. This is the first visit the Chancellor is making to the College following her appointment as Chancellor, late last year.

The visit which commenced with Dr. Rattansi planting a tree, proceeded with a tour to School of Biological Sciences, then Centre for Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, to School of Physical Sciences, School of Computing and Informatics, Examination Centre and finally ended at the recently launched Computing for  Development Lab (C4DLab).

Dr. Rattansi’s tour ended with a high tea at Arziki Restaurant where she was presented with gifts from the Production units; Department of Chemistry and Science Workshop.  In her heartening short speech, she challenged staff members to foster dedication and passion in their work. She emphasized the importance of commitment to the University to mould young minds so as to contribute to University attaining top position and even being among top-five Universities worldwide.

Speaking at the presentation of gifts to the Chancellor, Prof. G. Magoha, Vice Chancellor (UoN) noted the facilities that are located in the campus which include Preclinicals department of Human Anatomy and Veterinary Science.  He also congratulated CBPS for playing a very significant role in the contribution of highest number of researchers in PhD students.

In his brief remarks, Prof. B.Aduda,principal CBPS, acknowledged the privilege of students who have benefited from the Rattansi foundation to have the opportunity to meet  one of the founders, Dr.Rattansi. Prof. Aduda also pointed out additional facilities housed in the college being; Information Communication and Technology Center (ICTC), Examination Centre, Chiromo Members Club, Chiromo Funeral Parlour, Arziki restaurant and conference Centre, research station and a seismological station administered by Geology department. There are also technological laboratories; Information Technology, Business Process Outsourcing Lab(ITES-BPO), Solar Laboratory, Detergent unit and Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Laboratory, among others.

Deputy Vice Chancellors, College Principals and Director ICTC, Mr. Ibrahim Otieno were among staff and students who welcomed Dr. Rattansi.
