The University Nairobi has performed excellent in the just concluded webometrics rank. The university has been placed at position 6th in Africa and 697 worldwide.

This is a great improvement as compared to previous years and it is also the best position that the university has ever obtained since the ranking was introduced.

The training of trainers on ORCid (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) and TurnItIn has started. The training is currently underway at the ICT laboratory at the JKML (Jomo Kenyatta Memorial Library).

The trainers are going through an intense one day training on how to use an ORCiD account and TurnItIn Software. After the training, they will be sent to the various colleges to assist the lecturers and other members of staff to sign up with ORCiD and how to check for plagiarism using TurnItIn.

Researchers in the university have been urged to sign up with ORCiD (Open Researcher and Contributor ID). ORCiD is a unique digital identifier that uniquely distinguishes one researcher to another especially those sharing same or similar names. ORCiD helps a researcher to easily and uniquely attach his identity to research objects such as datasets, equipment, articles, media stories, citations, experiments, patents, and notebooks.

The University of Nairobi has received over 500 TurnItIn licences which are valid for one year. The Turnitin Software is anti-plagiarism software that detects any similarity in a given paper from other sources. The paper is checked against over millions of other student papers and any similarity is detected by the software.
