University of Nairobi in conjunction with the Ministry of Health (MoH) launched the Integrated Digital Health Platform (IDH)- AfyaKE at the University Health Services (UHS) on February 14, 2023.

The event was graced by the vice chancellor Prof Stephen Kiama, top University management and a delegation from the ministry of health. 

In his remarks, the vice chancellor, Prof Kiama pointed out long-term benefits that the UHS will gain including opening up to serving members of the wider public in the future “This system interlinks all our satellite clinics; the university will be able to attend to patients and get recoups from NHIF and eventually make UHS more sustainable” he said. Further, the IDH will provide valuable insights to aid in managing supply side. “We are able to cost and have data that we couldn’t have before, and the director is able to tell how many patients have been served and what services they were given” added Prof. Kiama.

The Director UHS Dr. Lucy Muhia who was also present during the launch commended the system and said that the system will allow timely decision on health matters, accountability, transparency and that it will help improve UHS services and turnaround time will be greatly improved.
