Our Director Mr. Paul Kariuki today signed the Performance Contract for the Financial Year 2019/2020. The signing ceremony took place at the Council Chambers on November 4, 2019. The event was witnessed by the Chair of Council, Prof. Julia Ojiambo.
Prof. Julia Ojiambo, stated the University performance contract has been negotiated in a manner that it; resonates with the public expectations, demonstrates progressive achievement of the Medium Term Plan III targets, Sector Performance Standards (SPS), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Strategic Plan, and other national development priorities; benchmarks with international best practices and fully aligned to the University budget.
University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Mbeche, observed that the preparation of performance contracts was in line with the 16th cycle Performance Contracting guidelines for FY 2019/2020, which also informs the university’s corporate performance contract which was negotiated and vetted on September 11, 2019. He also noted that the Performance contracts being signed today have been negotiated and cascaded from the corporate UoN Performance contract for FY 2019/2020. In total, 185 units are on performance contract. These includes 5 DVCs, 8 Colleges, 6 Deputy College Heads, 39 Faculties, Schools, Institutes, Centres, 2 Satellite Campuses, 95 Teaching Departments and Learning Centres and 30 Central Units.
Prof. Mbeche also observed that in the performance contracts for FY 2019/2020, Government has put emphasis on indicators picked from the Medium Term Plan III (MTP III) of Kenya’s Vision 2030, while also focusing more on outcomes and not processes. In his concluding remarks he stated that the concern of the Government was that institutions would ensure that performance targets progressively approach and/or exceed the level set out in MTP III in order to achieve the development goals of the country.
University management expects the various Head of Departments to achieve and surpass the targets as set in their respective performance targets.
