ICT Centre hosted ICT Champions from Kibabii University on 13th Feb 2020. The Champions paid a visit to UoN ICT Centre to benchmark against the University of Nairobi on strategies they can use to improve their webometrics ranking.
The visit was prompted by the consistent excellent Webometric Rankings performance of the University of Nairobi. In the January 2020 Webometrics rankings, the University of Nairobi was ranked top in East Africa, number 11 in Africa and number 1,018 worldwide.
To ensure it consistently performance well in the Webometrics Rankings, the University of Nairobi has put website strategy, policy and has dedicated staff for the website.
‘You must have a website strategy, policy and dedicated staff for the website’, the Ag. Director, ICT Centre told Kibabii University ICT Champions. ‘Further and most important’, he added ‘management must drive the website agenda for the strategies for successful implementation of the website strategies’.
The Ag. Deputy Director, MIS on her part stressed on the need to have dedicated website staff assigned various tasks as per the strategy in place. Further, she emphasized on the importance of frequent website monitoring which can be done using free tools such as Google or other paid for subscriptions.
In addition to creating a good website and adding content to the website, it is essential to have reliable internet connection and hosting.
