VC Prof Kiama addressing first year students

University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Gitahi Kiama, welcomed first year students into the University of Nairobi. While addressing the students  in Taifa hall, Prof. Kiama  cautioned first years against wasting their time while in campus. He challenged them to use their time wisely while in campus. “Use your time wisely to get the best of this university. University of Nairobi made us who we are today. We are the best university in the region and in Africa. We are ready to avail all service to make your stay here memorable. Such services include security, counselling, career services, transport, sports and games among others,” he said.

Professor Kiama also touched on  matters regarding discipline , students expulsion from the university, freedom of thought and expression  etc 

Prof Kiama also  indicated that Special Needs Centre will be created to cater for students with special needs. The special needs center will also help students get internships and enroll them in work study program. This will help students get the much needed experience even as they earn some money.

The event was graced by University top management I.e college principals,registrars ,deans and directors . 

The director of information and  communication technology , Mr Paul Kariuki urged  first year students to use ICT resources optimally  and responsibly. Mr.Paul Kariuki also informed students that University has various systems such as SMIS  where they can access timetables,fees, results etc. He also cautioned students to be very careful on  information sharing on the social networks i.e facebook, whatsApp  etc.
