University of Nairobi has performed well in the 2018/2019 Performance Contract Year. The day long evaluation exercise took place at the University of Nairobi Towers, 19th Floor on November 14, 2019.

Speaking during the Performance Contract Evaluation exercise, Prof. Julia Ojiambo observed that the University of Nairobi led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Mbeche has been very keen to deliver on the key mandate of the University; teaching, learning and community service. “We are happy as a Council to play our oversight role. The vision of the University is to achieve excellence. As a Council, we need evidence that we are doing well and indeed that evidence is now here being presented during this evaluation exercise. We are proud of our previous achievements, “she said.

University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Mbeche, noted that the performance contract is part of the university life. “We need to continue improving on service delivery. Implement set targets from, strategic plan as expected of us, “he said.

Leading the evaluation exercise from Government, Mr. John Magua congratulated the PC team for doing a wonderful work in documenting evidence. “University of Nairobi continues to perform well. You have maintained excellence status in the previous rankings of the state corporations, ministries, agencies in the Performance Contract exercise. Results speak for themselves,” he said. He pointed out that certificates or evidence from collaborating institutions like the Commission for Administrative Justice (CAJ), National Council for Persons with Disabilities, National Aids Control Council (NACC) would be used as part of the evaluation exercise. The university submits various quarterly reports to those institutions on how well they are managing the various performance contract indicators.

Among the issues the PC evaluation team were keen on include: Payment of pending bills, resolution of Public complaints, the number of graduates produced in specialized areas,  the number of students enrolled in STEM, guest Lecturers invited to the University, completion of various capital projects like the Confucius Institute, review of the Strategic Plan, university world rankings, implementation of Presidential directives, promotion of local content, the number of youth given internships and attachments and disability mainstreaming among other indicators.

The University Management was accompanied by Heads of Departments from Procurement, Administration, Security, ICT, Health Services, Construction and Maintenance and Customer Experience Center among others. UoN PC team was led by DVC, RIE, Prof. Madara Ogot and Dr. Grace Kiringa.
