The University of Nairobi (UoN) has overhauled its system of websites, making it more appealing and more informative to the audience. The newly redesigned sites are already live and feedback is being received from stakeholders. The websites have received positive rating from most stakeholders with recommendations for improvement being acted upon on continuous basis.

UoN revamps its system of websites

The sites were redesigned to keep pace with the emerging developments in the technological world and the evolving needs of the institution’s stakeholders who include: - students, staff, researchers, sponsors, guardians, collaborators, government agencies and the general public. On accessing the website, one can quickly get a snapshot of UoN displayed by high quality videos, eye catching photos and informative news items about research, teaching and learning undertaken on a day to day basis at UoN. Apart from redesigning the sites to make them more appealing to our audience, new features have also been incorporated to ensure that they are more user-friendly. The redesigning was also aimed at enhancing user experience in navigating the sites and ease of access to information.

The overhauling of the system of websites was spearheaded by the DVC (AA), Prof. Julius Ogeng’o who is the chair of the Website Steering Committee in line with the University Website Policy. The technical task was undertaken by University’s website team in the  ICT Center led by acting Director, Mr. Paul Kariuki; Dr. Chepkoech Kiptoo, acting Deputy Director (MIS); and Ruth Wambua, the Project Leader in charge of the university system of websites.

Already trainings on content upload on to the new sites have been conducted across all the colleges of the university, namely:- College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, College of Architecture & Engineering, College of Biological & Physical Sciences, College of Education & External Studies, College of Health Science and College of Humanities and Social Sciences. A similar training was also conducted for all central administration service departments including the offices of all deputy vice chancellors. The trainings targeted Web Champions in the various units to equip them with the necessary skills needed to post content on to the new websites.
