UoN and Smile train Partnership

Smile train which is  the largest cleft- palette organization in the world, has come into partnership with the University of Nairobi to offer full scholarships to 20 medical students. 

Prof Kiama - UoN vice chancellor noted that the University of Nairobi is ranked among the top ten universities in Africa and is uniquely positioned to support increasing the surgical workforce in the region. He also said that the university of Nairobi support to patients will involve taking cleft surgical services to the local communities as part of giving scholars an opportunity to connect with and deliver positive impact in the community.

The scholarships will be offered through the Department of Surgery to offer full scholarships to medical residents based in Africa to study plastic and reconstructive surgery. The scholarship program will support 20 resident doctors over the next five years in which each resident will receive $19,000 - $22,750 (KES. 2.1- KES. 2.3 million) per year
