It was all joy and celebration to see the dilapidated ICT network infrastructure at the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences get a new lease of life on April 8, 2025.
Leading the team of experts from Information, Communication and Technology Center, (ICT) was Mr. Lazarus Masila, Manager, Network Team assisted by Ms. Hada Oketch, Manager, Upper Kabete and Lower Kabete.
The process began by Mr. Mazila guiding the team on the various tasks to be undertaken to oversee the smooth transition from the worn out network infrastructure to the new network equipment.
Among the tasks carried out by the team included labelling the various cables from the routers, switches, configuration of routers and switches, assembling of the new network cabinet, disassembling the old network cabinet, configuration of switches and routers on the new network cabinet, changing the old cisco wireless access points at the student hostels. The labelling process was very essential to ensure that zero confusion when placing them on the new network cabinet.
Other activities during the operation included cabinet replacement, dust blowing, cable reorganization and labeling, oiling of movable parts, rodent control, general cleaning and reorganization of the server room. The team involved in this exercise will include ICT Staff from Lower Kabete, Network Team

As one team was busy in the server room installing the network cabinet, another team led by Mathew Ngingi, George Machiri and Laban Ndegwa was cracking their heads installing wireless internet at the student hostels. They had to replace the old CISCO wireless technology with Unify wireless technology which had the power to reach more students and was cost friendly.
As the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, we take this opportunity to thank the ICT team for their tireless efforts to revamp the network infrastructure. This will go a long way in enhancing the internet access in the Campus.
