The University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor Prof Stephen Kiama is the chairperson of the newly formed East and Southern Africa (ESA) Regional Committee of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) whose headquarter is in London, United Kingdom

The regional committee will be forging partnerships and collaborations with other member universities  

The member Universities include :

- The University of Nairobi (Kenya) represented by Professor Stephen Kiama Gitahi

-  The Technical University of Kenya (Kenya) represented by Professor Francis Aduol

- The University of Malawi (Malawi) represented by Professor Alfred Mtenje

- The University of Rwanda (Rwanda) represented by Professor Phillip Cotton

- The University of Dar-Es-Salaam (Tanzania) represented by Professor William Anangisye

- The University of Pretoria (South Africa) represented by Professor Tawana Kupe

- The University of Witwatersrand (South Africa) represented by Professor Adam Habib

- Makerere University (Uganda) represented by  Vice Chancellor Professor Barnabas Nawangwe. 

- The University of Zambia, represented by Prof. Mumba
