The University of Nairobi successfully conducted the University of Nairobi Students’ Association (UNSA) 2026/2027 Leadership Induction Workshop on June 8, 2026, at the CBK Institute of Monetary Studies under the theme “Transformational, Ethical and Responsible Student Leadership.”
The workshop brought together newly elected student leaders, University Management, and key stakeholders to equip the leaders with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary for effective and responsible leadership.
In his opening remarks, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Prof. John Mande, emphasized the importance of balancing academic responsibilities with leadership duties while upholding discipline, integrity, and responsible conduct.
Delivering the keynote address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ayub N. Gitau, challenged the student leaders to transition from activism to structured leadership. He urged them to adopt a solution-oriented approach in addressing student concerns and highlighted the critical role of student leadership in institutional governance through constructive engagement, accountability, and collaboration with University Management.
The induction programme covered key areas including university governance, student welfare, financial management, communication, media engagement, leadership responsibilities, and the use of digital systems. Participants also engaged in interactive discussions with University Management on student issues and potential solutions.
Among the attendees was the Director ICT, Mr. Paul Kariuki, who emphasized on the significance of technology in modern leadership.
“In today’s world, digital literacy is leadership power. This session equipped student leaders with knowledge on how to effectively use the University’s digital systems to communicate, organize, and lead efficiently.” Mr Kariuki said.
