5,709 GRADUATES VIRTUALLY AT THE 64TH GRADUATION CEREMONY

A record 5,709 were conferred degrees and awarded diplomas at the graduation ceremony held on December 11, 2020 at the Great Court, Main Campus.  Two(2) honorary degrees were also honored to Prof. Ojiambo and Prof Mugo.  Prof Ojiambo was awarded a Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) In Leadership in recognition of her distinguished and exemplary career in leadership which has helped shape the face of leadership and politics in Kenya. It is a time to celebrate! The University of Nairobi marks 50 years since it was transformed into the first national University in Kenya on July 1, 1970.

The University of Nairobi owes its origin to several developments in higher education within the country and the region. The idea of an institution for higher learning in Kenya goes back to 1947 when the Kenya Government drew up a plan for the establishment of a technical and commercial institute in Nairobi.

the University of Nairobi has received the 2020 Excellent Global Talent Ecosystem Partner Award by Huawei Technologies Company.

Out of the numerous universities globally, UoN has been recognized for the outstanding performance and active collaboration with Huawei to develop ICT Talent.

FIRST YEAR STUDENTS REPORTS TO CAMPUS FACE TO FACE LEARNING

First year students 2020/21/22 academic year  whose programs requires practical lessons have reported to campus for face to face learning.The students were registered using the biometric system by the ICT team.

The resumption is a decision by the UoN Senate and is meant to help the students whose programs require practical learning in the laboratory to report back to campus.The rest of the students will continue with online learning until further notice.

CUE SETS RULES FOR BLENDED LEARNING

Universities will now be required to seek accreditation for all their blended and online programmes from the Commission for University Education (CUE) before offering them to students.

The comission’s chair, Prof Chacha Nyaigotti, said there is need to ensure that universities are offering quality education as most of them shifted to virtual learning following the Covid-19 pandemic.
