ICT Laboratory -Jomo Kenyatta Memorial Library (JKML)

The training of trainers on ORCid (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) and TurnItIn has started. The training is currently underway at the ICT laboratory at the JKML (Jomo Kenyatta Memorial Library).

The trainers are going through an intense one day training on how to use an ORCiD account and TurnItIn Software. After the training, they will be sent to the various colleges to assist the lecturers and other members of staff to sign up with ORCiD and how to check for plagiarism using TurnItIn.

ORCid IDs are unique researcher identifiers designed to provide a transparent method for linking researchers and contributors to their activities and outputs. It will help with the challenge of distinguishing a researcher’s work from those of others with similar names. ORCiD can be sued in these instances: when submitting articles/manuscripts, when applying for grants, professional society membership, on CV, personal profiles, webpages etc. click to read more on ORCiD

Turnitin is a web-based writing assessment toolkit which allows instructors to detect for plagiarism. click here to read article on turnItIn

During the morning session, rosemary Otando from the Library gave a brief overview of ORCiD. Felix Rop (Library ICT) then took the trainers on a step by step process on how to open and use the ORCiD ID.

The afternoon session was led by Esther Obachi (Senior Library Assistant) who briefed the trainers on the importance of TurnItIn, how to open a TurnItIn account and how to use it.

The trainers will be sent to the various colleges the first week of February from 1st February to 5th February to sensitize/train other members of staff on the importance of having these two important accounts.
